Hasegawa 1/72 YF-19 Prototype

Finally decided to stop assembling gundam model kits and for a change, I decided to embark on a MACROSS project. If you ask me, I would say that YF-19 is the valkyrie model that I like most in the MACROSS series, which is why I decided to buy and assemble this model kit. Well actually, the YF-19 model kit which was released in 2002 is the only decent one that I can find after scouting many hobby shops. The YF-19 is a prototype of the VF-19 series that appears in MACROSS 7 and thereafter series. The famous VF-19 改 piloted by Nekki Basara in MACROSS 7 and VF-19F of The Emerald Force all originate from this prototype YF-19 that was test-flighted in MACROSS PLUS. At first sight, I preferred YF-19 to YF-21. This is because of the unconventional airframe that the YF-19 has. However, I grew to like YF-21 too as it looks relatively cool too. This Hasegawa 1/72 YF-19 model kit was completed in stages over a total of 6 days. This is the first time that I use cement, decal softener and sandpaper in assembling model kit and I am quite quite impressed by the overall product although there were minor skirmishes that I managed to cover up eventually.

Day 2 - Plane body, unpainted, no detail

Day 3 - Colouring and panel lines detailing
